Dori Wreck
"Sunken ship full of marine life
Dori was a cargo ship, a vital part of the famous Liberty-fleet, built during World War II by the US Navy. She sank 800m from the coast, near Ponta Delgada in 1964. Her wreckage, sitting at a depth of about 20 meters, has become an amazing artificial reef surrounded by a flat sandy bottom. This spot is a marine protected area where fishing is prohibited. Here we can find countless schools of various species such as sea breams, parrotfish, trevally, barracudas, red mullet, triggerfish, among many others.
